April 24: FDA releases proposed rule on tobacco products!

On Thursday, April 24, 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released proposed regulations on tobacco products, including premium cigars and pipe tobacco. The text of the rule is available here. The IPCPR and CRA are working tirelessly to defend the premium cigar industry. Here is the official statement from the IPCPR. Any questions regarding this should be directed to Kip Talley at kip@ipcpr.org. We will need everyone's help during the public comment period.

HB 1750 introduced to raise OTP to 27%!

HB 1750 was introduced on January 12, 2011 to General Assembly to raise OTP from 10% wholesale to 27% wholesale. This includes premium cigars! HB 1750 Cigarettes; increases tax rate. Introduced by: Kenneth R. Plum SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED: Cigarette tax rate. Increases the cigarette tax rate from $0.30 per pack to $0.80 per pack and increases the cigarette excise tax rate on roll-your-own tobacco from 10 percent to 27 percent.

HB 1815 was filed on 1/11/11 to increase OTP tax from 10% to 50%
